Crazy Squirrel Minicon: June 20, 2015

It’s time to get pumped for this year’s roleplaying minicon! Coinciding with Free RPG Day as normal, we’re excited to see what games you want to run.

This year we’re going for a more relaxed schedule, including 5 hour slots. On Saturday, games run from 10 am to 3 pm, with a second slot running from 4 pm to 9 pm. Sunday’s roleplaying is a single slot from 1 pm to 6 pm. Admission is free as always, and everyone gets a pick of the Free RPG day loot.

We’re running game signups from now through May 28th. To run a game, just fill out this simple, familiar form. Without you, GMs, we don’t have a con. Thanks!

Roleplaying Mini-Con is this month!

The Roleplaying Mini-Con nears! GMs, keep an eye on your inboxes. Game registration for everyone begins Wednesday, June 4th. You can register at the Warhorn site early, so you’ll be ready to sign up as soon as the site goes live. To do so, visit warhorn.net/events/crazy-squirrel-games.

If you’re thinking about running a session but haven’t sent us your game, you can still get listed. Just fill out our game form here: 2014 RPG MiniCon: GMs, List your games! We’re actually doing well on the number of offered games, so GM only if you’re inspired… otherwise, sign up and enjoy a weekend of great play!

2014 Minicon games are rolling in!

Several GMs have submitted games, but we have space for many more!

If you’d like to see the games already on offer, visit our Warhorn site; signups will open in June!

The Warhorn site is up to date for games submitted prior to May 28th. If you submitted before then and don’t see it on your list, please submit again! You can submit games via our form.

Thanks for running games–and look at the cool games rolling in on the Warhorn site.

2014 RPG MiniCon: GMs, List your games!

The 2014 Roleplaying Games Minicon is Saturday, June 21st and 22nd, 2014. We’ve had great events the last two years, and we’re looking forward to even more fun this year. We’ve got more space for game tables and sound walls–let GMs be heard across their table, not across the room!

This month we need GMs to step up and tell us what games they’d like to run. Fill out the form below and we’ll put your game on the signup site. Come June, we’ll let the hordes of players loose to sign up for your games–and let you sign up for some fun play too.

We’re spring boarding off of Free RPG Day; GMs will get first pick of the freebies on Saturday, but everyone will get cool stuff to take home.

(If your game runs particularly long, go ahead and submit for two consecutive slots as [Game] Part 1 and [Game] Part 2. Be sure to list whether players must participate in both slots in the adventure description, or if you’ll work fresh players in at the beginning of Part 2.)

We’ve had a great number of GMs step up– Thanks! For now, we encourage everyone to sign up for games they’d love to play at the minicon. If you’re eager to run, please consider prepping your game idea for the next Roleplaying Meetup on July 12th.

Pathfinder: We Be Goblins Too!
GM: Josh McIllwain
6 players; characters provided (1 remaining)
The Licktoads, once the great and fierce goblin tribe in Brinestump Marsh, were defeated by human adventurers! All that remains of the tribe are its four goblin “heroes”—Reta Bigbad the fighter, Chuffy Lickwound the rogue, Poog the cleric of Zarongel, and Mogmurch the alchemist. Homeless and bored, they left their swampy homeland to join the neighboring goblin tribe, the Birdcrunchers.
– The good news is that the Birdcrunchers are willing to let the goblin heroes join their tribe.
– The better news is that the Birdcrunchers have heard of these four, and want one of them to become their new chieftain.
– The bad news is that before the goblins can join, they’ll need to endure a series of dangerous and humiliating tests. Very dangerous. Very humiliating.
– The worse news is that lately Birdcruncher chieftains have had really short lifespans—they’re being killed by the pet fire-breathing boar of a local ogre who wants the Birdcruncher land as his own.
– Can the four heroes of the now-dead Licktoad tribe save the Birdcrunchers and, in so doing, become their new leaders?

“We Be Goblins Too!” is an adventure for four 3rd-level goblin characters, written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game. The adventure takes place near the coastal town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, and serves as a sequel to “We Be Goblins,” Paizo’s popular 2011 Free RPG Day adventure!

The Neutral Grounds casefile is a one-shot mystery-adventure for the Dresden Files Role-Playing Game, intended for 3-7 characters at the “Up To Your Waist” power level. Customizable, pregenerated characters with sheets and power details are provided.

Six weeks. Six weeks it’s taken you to get to the Valley of Shadow. Some of you seek the Wall and its knowledge of undeath; some of you seek to destroy the Wall; some just seek gold and glory…. It’s not a perfect team, but each member is capable in his own right.

The Wall of Byarta. The secrets of gods etched in runes on black obsidian. What tricks have the gods that protect such knowledge? What creatures might guard this epic monument?

You look to the left and right… hardy warrior, skulking thief, arrogant priest, mysterious mage… and an elf. Never trust an elf. But, the elfman did bring you here….

[This is an old-school dungeon crawl using some old-school rules. The original Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules have a certain magic to them that no game since has been able to replicate. The books themselves are now musty, ancient tomes with archaic artwork and heavy language. Whether you’re an grizzled old veteran or just getting started in RPGs, you’re welcome at my table. Characters provided.]

Pathfinder: We Be Goblins
GM: Will Johnson
players 6, characters provided (FULL)
The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure—fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh. In order to prove themselves as the Licktoads’ bravest goblins, the PCs must complete a series of dangerous dares, from swallowing bull slugs and braving the dreaded Earbiter to dancing with Squealy Nord himself. Yet even once they’ve proven their mettle, the adventure is just beginning. For the ship in question is far from uninhabited, and Vorka the cannibal goblin would like nothing better than a few tasty visitors….

We Be Goblins! is an adventure for 1st-level characters in which the PCs play a horde of malicious and murderous goblins, written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest RPG. The adventure takes place outside the town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, but can easily be adapted for any campaign world. It also serves as a preview of Pathfinder Player Companion: Goblins of Golarion, and as an optional prequel to Pathfinder Adventure Path’s upcoming Jade Regent Adventure Path.

Feed Fresno 2012

We completed our third weekend of Feed Fresno and exceeded all of our expectations. Congratulations to everyone who pitched in and helped ensure that everyone gets to eat. Together, we raised over 3000 cans of food, and more than $300 for the food bank.

Our first event was a big Magic tournament, hosted by traveling Judge Sean Catanese, who brought some cool prizes along. The bin filled, and we wound up stashing extra food everywhere! To see more photos from the event, click through the photo below.

The second weekend was a minis marathon, organized by Ryan. There were lots of great events. Gut Shot was a crowd pleaser. Scott Richman’s Mordheim Demo wowed people with his awesome terrain. An album of Feed Fresno: Minis events is linked from the picture below.

Among the events of the minis weekend were the announcements of the painting contest winners! We had a lot of great entries.

The Feed Fresno finale was the board gamer meetup, featuring a Dragon Dice demo from 11am to 2pm, a Game Designers Guild meeting (that exploded from 4 to 15 people this month), and the X-Wing Kessel Run Tournament. Click through the picture below for images from Feed Fresno’s board game day.

After several hard fought rounds, Joe commanding Bobba Fett’s Slave One barely outmaneuvered Chris Jones guiding the Millennium Falcon in the Kessel Run finale.

Throughout the Feed Fresno events we had raffles. One of the most prized raffles was Rosalyn Clodfelter’s amazing TARDIS dice bag. You might say a few people were interested…

The event was an amazing success, showing off a tremendous spirit of giving. Ryan L. and Chris J. each donated the equivalent of 350 cans, tying for the most generous. Many others donated crazy amounts–several people donated over 100 cans!

Sept. 8: Magic Celebration, GPT & Ascension tournaments

We’re calling it Card Play Saturday and it’s going to be amazing.

First, we’ve got the annual Magic Celebration pack wars flights we’re going to run. Those will be at 10:30 and 11:30 in the morning. It’s free and a great way to get into Magic if you’ve never played before. We’ll focus on the new players here and help everyone have a great time.

Then at 1 p.m. we start our Ascension tournament. This deck building game is quick to learn and easy to play. Five bucks gets you into the tourney. The winner will get a copy of the upcoming expansion Immortal Heroes (or store credit to go toward the purchase when it’s finally available). Second and Third place will get promo cards for the game.

At 2 p.m. there’s some more Magic with our GPT for San Jose. This will be a standard format tournament with a $25 entrance fee. There’ll be some stuff competition and TJ Morrison will be on hand as our head judge. Here’s the prizes you’ll be vying for:

  • First: $100 travel fun and 2 byes for San Jose
  • Second: A booster box of Magic or $75 in store credit. Want to wait to pick up that box until Ravnica hits the shelves? We can make that happen.
  • Third & Fourth: 15 packs OR 11 of our Squirrel Tokens ($3 coupons)
  • Fifth – Eighth: 8 packs OR 5 of our Squirrel Tokens ($3 coupons)

There’ll also be giveaways throughout the tournament. We will when this a competitive REL event and it will have a top 8 playoff.

After you’ve survived all that, there’s more Magic Celebration that evening at 6 and 7. Again, if you’re a newer player, this is the time to find out how enjoyable Magic can be. These small tournaments are free and will last until we’ve run out of packs set aside for this event.

And just imagine: this is all just a walk-up to October, when we celebrate our Squirrelaversy and start our Go for the Gold Magic competition.
